FOUR youths have been arrested after a number of cars were damaged in one afternoon around Darlington.

Police have appealed for witnesses who might have seen a white 4x4 pick up-style vehicle that was being driven erratically around the town just after 4pm on Sunday. (November 4) Most of the sightings of the vehicle are believed to have been on Carmel Road South and the A66 bypass.

A number of eggs were thrown at other vehicles and pedestrians from the 4x4 and several car owners also reported a cracked windscreen, paint damage and broken headlights.

PC Phil Donnelly, of the south roads policing units, said: “We believe the vehicle was being driven in loops around the town and would appeal to anyone who spotted it or has had their vehicle damaged to contact us on the non-emergency number 101.”

Four youths aged in their late teens, two local and two from Leeds, have been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and bailed pending further enquiries.
