LUCKY winners have been enjoying a winter treat after a luxury hamper charity draw.

Pupils and staff at West Park Academy, in Alderman Leach Drive, Darlington, donated wine, chocolate, toiletries, biscuits, and tinned food to create the hampers, which were entered into the charity draw.

Tickets were sold for £1 each and the 25 lucky winners were chosen before Christmas.

All money raised will go towards the Friends of West Park Academy, which helps to raise funds to buy equipment for the school.

Mother Taryn Hay, 31, whose children Leah, eight and Thomas, five attend the academy, said: “The hamper draw is something that the friends of the school do each year to help raise funds to buy equipment or special purchases for the children throughout the year.

“All the families who donated items for the hampers have been extremely generous and we managed to sell all of our raffle tickets.”

Earlier in the year a donation of £2,320 from the Friends of West Park Academy helped to turn a former classroom into a new ICT suite, boasting 15 top-of-the-range computers.

Donations have also helped to buy outdoor picnic tables for nursery children as well as trips out and end of term treats for the whole school.
