LIGHTS OUT: Councillors have rejected plans to erect two illuminated advertising boards at the Total petrol station, in Grange Road, Darlington.

The application attracted 25 objections from residents and Darlington Borough Council turned down the proposals saying the structures would damage the West End conservation area.

Last month, the petrol station last month dropped controversial plans to sell alcohol after receiving criticism from residents.

MACHETE MYSTERY: Police have revealed they have not charged anyone after a suspected machete attack in Darlington.

Officers were called to an incident in McMullen Road and Cobden Street, around 1.15pm last Thursday, following receiving reports a man had been injured during a fight.

A police search of three vehicles found no weapons and no-one was injured.
