FOUR air cadets have travelled to London to collect their gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.
The youngsters, all from 234 (City of Durham) Squadron Air Cadets, were: Cadet Warrant Officer Alyx Milne, 19; Cadet Flight Sergeants Paul Franklin, 20, and Matthew Leathard, 18; and Cadet Sergeant Megan Thorns, 19.
The presentation was the culmination of many years of hard work for the four, all of whom worked through the awards’ bronze and silver levels together before progressing to gold standard.
The activities they took part in included community volunteering and a self-sufficient four-day expedition in the Cheviot hills of Northumberland.
Miss Thorns said: “The expedition was the toughest part of the award. We had to work together as a team, which got harder as we got more tired through the week.”
The cadets received their awards at St James’ Palace, in London.
