A LEISURE centre in north Durham has unveiled new family friendly facilities.

A children’s adventure play area and a healthy eating bistro have been opened at The Louisa Centre in Stanley.

Lindsay Tuck, chief executive of Leisureworks, which runs the centre, said: "The new development brings together a range of activities in the central area of the building, creating a hub of activity and increased vibrancy immediately upon entering the centre.

"Our aim is to enhance the customer experience for everybody, from families and children wanting to try out our new play areas, to the public generally, who might be working up an appetite in our gym or simply wanting to pop by for a coffee with a friend."

The development includes improved access for users of the centre, with a new lift installed to assist entry to all levels of the building.

The Louisa Lagoon, the playground, has child friendly structures for children including stepping stones, a climbing wall and hanging snakes.

While the new and improved Playzone, now renamed the Little Lagoon, caters for younger children aged up to eight.

The new bistro, offers an extensive menu of healthy food options.

Catering Manager Barbara Richardson said "We have a great new range of fresh produce available and have consulted with the NHS on our Bistro menu, which even caters for people with special dietary requirements.

"Our menu also works on a ‘points’ system for those looking to keep track of their calorie intake."

Membership options and children’s party packages are available. Sessions cost £4 for over 5s and £3 for children under five.
