THIEVES are targeting Land Rovers after a spate of incidents in North Yorkshire.

Police say the cars are being specifically targeted by thieves and have urged owners to be on their guard.

A Land Rover Defender was stolen Haxby near York and police believed the suspects then unsuccessfully targeted another of the vehicles in the Rawcliffe area of the city.

The stolen car was later found abandoned in the city. In a previous incident, a customised Land Rover was stolen last month from Catterick Garrison, which has not yet been found.

North Yorkshire Police are urging owners to use their garage if they have one and make sure the keys are stored out of view to discourage thieves from breaking into homes to steal them.
