A FORMER soldier has been mentoring students at a school through a “military to mentors” scheme.
Samantha Davies, from Catterick, is a former sergeant with the 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery and as a qualified army mentor she is now visiting Stokesley School for six weeks to talk to students on a one-to-one basis.
The scheme aims to pass on values learnt through active service, such as commitment and courage and also deliver an education programme organised by the school’s alternative curriculum co-ordinator.
Mrs Davies joined the army shortly after leaving school. Her first overseas posting was to Iraq shortly after her 18th birthday and she has also seen active service in Afghanistan. She left the army in 2011 to have a baby.
