A SCHOOL has been playing its part in the Olympic legacy by inviting top athletes to mentor its students.
Former Olympic boxing champion Amanda Coulson and swimmer Chris Cooke both recently paid a visit to Stokesley School to inspire pupils in sport.
Hartlepool-born Coulson, who recently retired from the ring and Newcastle swimmer Chris Cook are both athlete mentors with the Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative.
Cook, who swam at the Beijing Olympics and represented Great Britain for ten years, spent the day coaching Year 7 and 8 students in swimming.
He also helped other years as they got involved in the relatively new sport of Tchoukball, an indoor handball game and fitness sessions.
The school recently secured funding for Tchoukball equipment and coaching from the Matalan Your Activity Project.
A spokeswoman for the school said: “All those students who were lucky enough to meet Amanda or Chris during their visits gained greatly from the experience and we are extremely grateful to them both for spending the time with us at Stokelsey school.”
