A POPULAR children’s playground is to undergo a £34,000 upgrade after councillors secured funding from housing developers.
Work to build a range of new equipment and replace old items at the Sowerby Flatts playground will begin in the new year, in a drive to provide activities for children aged around nine at the site.
At a meeting of Sowerby Parish Council members heard that while teenagers and toddlers were catered for at the site, there was little for junior school-aged youngsters.
The revamp will include a new multi-activities frame, a four-person spring, a new roundabout, and existing equipment repainted and given fresh matting.
Councillor Mark Robson said: “We have received £25,000 windfall money from developers and we are in a good position to do these works because we have also received in excess of £30,000 for recreational purposes from the Blakey Lane development.
“Ideally, weather permitting, it will all be in place by Easter.”
