A piece of York’s railway heritage has been laid to rest. The former Jarvis/Fastline rail depot buildings at Leeman Road in the city have been bulldozed to make way for any redevelopment of the York Central area and improve the appearance of the site. The depots were constructed more than 100 years ago by the York Engineering Company as the Phoenix Foundry. The buildings were then sold to the North Eastern Railway and then Jarvis, but since in 2010 they have lain empty.
