A GENERATION GAME style challenge will see the public compete to make hundreds of sausages on Saturday.

Students and the public will create their own sausages at an event held by Middlesbrough College to mark British Sausage Week, which began on Monday (November 5).

The masterclass in sausage-making will also feature guest speaker Tim Weschenfelder, from Middlesbrough-based sausage specialists W Weschenfelder & Sons.

Those attending will have chance to mix herbs and a variety of meats before taking to a sausage-making machine to create a selection of sausages including pork and leek and Cumberland.

All products used will be 100 per cent natural and British. The meat will be provided by County Durham company Country Valley, owners of local butchers Newboulds.

The college’s Chef Lecturer Steve Donnison said the event highlighted what was on offer for their catering students. He said: “Sausage-making is just one of the technical skills we teach catering students during their time at the College.

“Fun activities like this give students the opportunity to acquire lots of new skills, not just food-processing but also a lot of maths skills such as working out ratios and proportions.”

Hundreds of sausages are expected to be made on Saturday, some of which will be sold to the public with the remainder being put onto the menu at the college’s Cafe 66.
