COMMUNITY GROUPS are being invited to make proposals for the take-over of a community centre in Middlesbrough.

Beechwood Youth and Community Centre is one of a number of buildings being offered by the town’s council as part of a Community Asset Transfer programme – an initiative that allows community groups to bid to take over buildings that are given up by the authority.

The building was closed in April and has been offered as part of a savings plan implemented to help the council meet cuts imposed by central government.

No sustainable proposals have yet been received and the council is seeking expressions of interest to take over the building.

All applicants should have community support, appropriate resources and the knowledge and expertise to sustain the project long term.

Interest should be registered by Friday, November 16. A detailed business case will then be developed with support and guidance from council officers.

Other buildings that have been offered for asset transfer include Langdon Square Community Centre, Thorntree Park Pavilion and the Pallister Park Centre.
