MORE than £1,000 has been presented to a mountain rescue team from money raised at a 70th birthday party and a tractor rally.

Doug Mould, from Scorton, near Catterick, has presented £1,100 to Swaledale Mountain Rescue.

Just over half of the money was raised during a tractor run he organised for about 40 tractors through Wensleydale and Swaledale in June 2013.

The Moors and Dales Vintage Tractor Run is an annual event which traditionally attracts farmers from across Yorkshire, as well as a group of farmers from the Netherlands, who arrive in the area every year for the event.

Mr Mould helped raise the rest of the money, £500, during his 70th birthday at the end of 2013, when he organised a meal and entertainment for about 50 guests, including those involved with the tractor rally.

Guests donated money to the charity in lieu of presents and made further donations to the charity.

Mr Mould said: “It’s good to be able to support people who are worth their salt in that kind of work. Rescue teams are all volunteers and not quite as well known as things like air ambulance.”

Mr Mould would like to thank everyone for their donations and to Metcalfe Farms, near Leyburn, who allowed tractor drivers the use of their yard during summer’s rally.
