TWO primary school pupils have been presented with awards for designing winning posters in a road safety competition.
Thirsk Community, Sowerby Community, All Saints Roman Catholic and Knayton Church of England primary schools took part in the competition as part of Road Safety Week.
Ella Stimson, seven, of Thirsk Community Primary School, was the overall winner for her picture of children crossing a road and was presented with a T-shirt and £10 Tesco voucher.
Ten-year-old Blaney Wardhaugh won the Thirsk Community Primary School award for her colourful artwork and was presented with a T-shirt and £5 Tesco voucher.
Assistant Chief Constable Paul Kennedy, who judged the competition, said he had been impressed by the standard of the entries.
He said: “We have some very talented youngsters in the area and Ella and Blaney are very worthy winners.
“Road safety is an extremely important issue and raising awareness and getting children involved at an early age is vital to help children stay safe.”
The competition was organised by PCSO Nigel Warby and prizes were donated by Tesco, White Rose Books, Towlers newsagents and Boots.
