THE Dales Care centre in Bedale is appealing for drivers to help run its unique meals on wheels service.

Dales Care, which offers help and care for older and vulnerable people, has seen demand for the service grow since it was set up 18 months ago. It operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays delivering meals throughout Bedale and the surrounding villages.

Michelle Sands of Dales Care said all the food is freshly prepared on the premises using locally sourced food where possible. It is delivered by volunteers to local elderly people between midday and 1pm.

She added: “Meals on Wheels provides a vital service to those people who may have difficulty with shopping, carrying food home or cooking for themselves.

“Over the past year since we began we have delivered over 2,700 meals to people who need help, this service is vital and we couldn’t do the excellent job we do without a team of wonderful volunteers supporting us.

"If you are interested in joining us please do get in touch. As a charity we want to help every person that calls us.”

The meals cost £5 for two courses. Call 01677-425806 for more information on becoming a volunteer driver or email dalescarepr@gmail.com. Mileage expenes are paid. Anyone who would like to have meals delivered can contact Diane Hosking on 01677-425806.
