THREE friends are going from one end of the river Swale to the other in a mammoth trek to raise money for charity.
Over six days Paul Fisher, 65, Graham Bellwood, 63, and David Stirling, 49, plan to travel over 150 miles by bike and canoe from the head of Swaledale on the Cumbrian border following the river to the sea.
The trio, all from the Northallerton area, are in training and plan to set off in mid July for the trip. They will cycle to Morton on Swale, from where they will canoe to York before getting back on their bikes to go to Hull and the east coast at Hornsea.
The trio are each seeking sponsorship for different charities - Age UK North Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Mr Bellwood said: This should be an enjoyable challenge, where hopefully we can have some fun and at the same time raise donations for our chosen charities.”
Mr Stirling added: “We travel part of the route of the Tour de France down Swaledale, but I don’t think we will be travelling anywhere near the speed they will be."
