VINTAGE and classic tractors will take to the road later this month – to help a group of youngsters travel half-way round the globe.

A group of Explorer Scouts from Northallerton are planning an antipodean trip of a lifetime next January when they head for Adelaide in Australia

The 12-strong team and six leaders will be making a three-week trip to join some 1,200 other Explorer Scouts from all over the world.

To help raise funds, the group is organising a tractor road run, which will start and end at Thornton le Beans, near Northallerton, on June 29.

Supporters and spectators will be welcome to wave the machines off on their 35-mile picturesque journey that will take in some of the North York Moors.

The vehicles will leave the Paddocks in Thornton le Beans at 10am and bacon sandwiches will be served before the off, along with a two-course lunch en route.

All tractors must be insured and legal on the public highway. Entry is £15 per vehicle.
