A LOYAL civil servant who worked for the military at Catterick Garrison for 30 years has been awarded a top honour to mark her devoted service.
In all Elizabeth House, 60, from Aldborough, near Boroughbridge, worked in the civil service for 40 years and was the personal assistant to 16 brigade commanders at the garrison.
In addition, she spent eight years working for the Director of Defence Psychiatry at the Duchess of Kent’s Military Hospital when it provided full accident and emergency facilities.
She was presented with her award by Brigadier Charlie Herbert, commander of 4 Mechanized Brigade in front of the full headquarters staff at Baden Powell House.
“I am delighted to be able to present this Imperial Service Medal to Elizabeth who has given a lifetime of outstanding duty to the Armed Forces,” he said.
“It is wonderful recognition of all the work she has done. In particular, supporting 4 Mechanized Brigade in the last few years during tours of both Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Ms House said she had just been doing her job over the years, but was very honoured.
“I am totally amazed somebody put my name forward for an award,” she added. “It is just very humbling to be awarded the honour for all my years of service.”
