A VILLAGE pub landlady has said her annual fundraising walk has netted around £1,600 – before any sponsor money has even been collected.

Morag Mackintosh, landlady of the Crown Inn, Brompton-on-Swale, has organised a charity walk for the last 15 years, choosing a different charity each year to reflect the need of the community.

This year she chose Diabetes UK in memory of village resident and pub regular Wendy Petty, who died last year, and around 50 people turned out on Sunday to walk from the pub to Richmond and back again for a barbecue.

Mrs Mackintosh said: “It is always really well supported and this year we collected £1,600 on the day from visiting all the pubs in Richmond with a bucket.

“None of the sponsor money has been collected yet so I’m hoping to do well. We often raise between £3,000 and £6,000 for our chosen charities, which have included the Royal British Legion and helping a local boy who had cancer.

“We decide each February who we are going to raise the money for. Diabetes UK has been very supportive and gave out medals to everyone who completed the walk.”
