A TOWN centre festival has been given the go-ahead to take place in Northallerton next weekend.

Organiser Ryan Crow said he wanted to put on an event that would benefit the whole town – residents and traders alike – after seeing similar successful events in other towns around the country.

Northallerton High Street Festival will take place in the High Street from Thursday, September 11 until Sunday, September 14, and will include live bands, children’s entertainment, and fun fair rides on an evening.

Last month the town council and businesses in the High Street were consulted , and an event plan was submitted to the local Safety Advisory Group made up of Hambleton District Council licensing committee, police, highways authority, and the emergency services.

Mr Crow said: “We wanted to do something that will benefit the town and businesses.

“The event will be open from noon each day and the stage, set up outside the Town Hall, will feature acts including a Michael Buble tribute, Northallerton Silver Band, a Beatles tribute, Peppa Pig, and characters from Frozen.

“Star Radio will host the event on stage, and music will continue until 11pm on Thursday to Saturday and until 5pm on Sunday.”

Mr Crow said he had seen similar events taking place around the country and abroad and thought it would work well in his home town.

“Northallerton means a lot to me and I want to do something that will be good for the town."

Northallerton High Street will be closed from Wednesday, September 10 from 6pm until 11pm; Thursday, September 11 to Saturday, September 13 from 5pm until 11.30pm; and on Sunday, September 14 from 1pm until midnight.
