WOULD-BE volunteers who want to give up some of their time for their local community are being invited to a special event in Northallerton.

The town’s Voluntary Service Association is hosting a volunteers and funding day in the Golden Lion Hotel on the High Street between 2pm and 5pm on September 18.

It will offer people thinking of volunteering the opportunity to meet with more than 20 organisations which are seeking volunteers. It will also provide local community and voluntary groups the chance to find out what local, regional and national grants are available.

Manager Hazel Kirby said “It offers an ideal opportunity for groups to speak face-to-face with funders from organisations such as Big Lottery Fund, Children in Need, Heritage Lottery Fund, Sport England, Community Foundation and many more.

“This year we are also offering groups looking for volunteers and anyone thinking of volunteering an informal opportunity to have a chat and see what opportunities match people’s interests, skills and available time.”

She added: “Volunteering is a great way to meet and help others, gain a sense of satisfaction, get involved and make a real difference. It can also offer a stepping stone into employment.”
