A PRIMARY school’s fundraising drive to provide laptops for pupils has been hailed a success after netting £3,000 from events culminating in its annual summer fair.

St Mary’s Bolton on Swale Primary School, in Scorton, near Richmond, held the fair in July and included dancing, craft stalls and games.

The Friends of the School Committee organised the event, which brought together pupils, parents, staff and the local community, and opened with maypole dancing from each class.

Other activities included a bucking bronco, Purple Play Bus, soak the teacher, loom band-making, nail painting and goal scoring.

Each class also designed and ran its own stall.

Chairwoman Helene Brown said: “This year’s summer fair was a big success and very well attended.

“I’ve had fantastic feedback from the children, parents, teachers and visitors saying how much they enjoyed the afternoon.

“Our aim was to involve the children in the planning process – which helps increase their confidence and makes them feel proud knowing they have helped make the event a success.

“Thanks to the support of everyone involved we were able to raise funds towards projects - such as providing laptops - which directly benefit the children.”
