KNITTING enthusiasts are being encouraged to get out their needles – to make winter more bearable for abandoned dogs.

Jerry Green Dog Rescue is calling for knitters and craft groups to unite and knit jumpers, snoods, hats, blankets or toys to keep their animals comfortable in cold weather.

“We had a great response from our supporters last winter who created some fantastic coats and this year we’re hoping to do even better,” said head of fund-raising Catherine Foster.

“We take our dogs out for walks every day and like to make their kennels as comfortable as possible.

“But in the cold weather some of our dogs do really feel the cold, so simple things jumpers, snoods, blankets and toys can make a big difference.”

“So if you’re a dab hand with knitting needles we would love you to support our Great Doggy Knit Off and donate items for rescue dogs without a home.”

She added: “Whether you love to knit or crochet, we don’t mind and the dogs certainly don’t either.”

Knitting patterns are available and supporters can request one by emailing enquiries@jerrygreendogs.org.uk or calling 01652-657820.
