A RUGBY club has created a life members board to honour those who have dedicated their time and skills to the club.

Northallerton Rugby Club invited chairman of Hambleton District Council Cllr John Prest to unveil a plaque at their base in Northallerton Road.

Cllr Prest, who has been a member of the club since 1965, lifted the wraps off the board to show the current 17 life members in a ceremony last month.

Club president Peter Blythe, who played alongside Cllr Prest in the 1960s, said: “As club president and a life member I left it was time we had our own board to show our commitment to the club.”

Cllr Prest said: “I remember the days when Northallerton Grammar School was used for changing rooms before playing on a pitch in Yafforth which had to be cleaned and marked up first.

“The club moved to its current base in Northallerton Road in 1973 and it is doing much bigger and better things.

“We now have three teams regularly playing in their respective leagues.

“I am delighted to still be associated with it, and to see people who have given a huge amount of spare time and dedication to the club is wonderful.”
