A SERVICE to help people lead a healthier lifestyle has been launched by a district council.

Step by Step is a holistic service commissioned by Richmondshire District Council and has the backing of doctors and health professionals to improve conditions including heart disease, muscular disorders, obesity, arthritis and osteoporosis.

It is jointly funded by North Yorkshire County Council Public Health and NHS Hambleton, Richmondshire and Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group.

Clinical chief officer of the CCG, Vicky Pleydell said: “The new referral service is all about encouraging and supporting people to make small, achievable changes to their daily habits that will set them on the road to reaching and maintaining a healthier lifestyle, along with all the long term benefits that brings.”

Step by Step incorporates the existing GP exercise referral scheme and a new service for people who need extra support to improve their lifestyle. Anyone wishing to take part in the programme would do so by visiting their GP for a referral.

The service is open to any Richmondshire resident aged 18 or over.
