MOVIE fans in a market town without a cinema are holding their first ever film festival.

Over the next four months 15 films will be shown in the town hall at Masham which doubles as the town’s makeshift picture house. Over the past two years dedicated fans have been showing Movies in Masham with regular screenings of films new and old using state of the art projection equipment provided through Cine North.

Now the group have won funding from Harrogate Borough Council’s Arts and Heritage Grant Fund to stage the first ever film festival.

There’ll be 15 films running from February through to May, including a season of Tuesday night British films including three made in Yorkshire, plus Saturday family screenings of films for children and young adults.

A spokesman said: "Each film has special features, both archive footage of Masham and the surrounding area, and a selection of the best films from the 2014 Bradford Animation Festival.

“There is some magnificent animation being created at the moment, and with supporting features and a range of refreshments we can offer a proper old fashioned cinema experience.

“The Masham movie festival offers something for everyone.”
