STUDENTS are proving to be star performers after being officially recognised 10,000 times by their teachers.

The head boy and girl at Richmond School and Sixth Form College, Angus Bankier, 18, and Isla Teasdale, 17, performed the honours as students picked up “star performer” certificates for their efforts in their respective years.

Merits are awarded by teachers to recognise and promote good attitude and attainment by students each day.

And for Jess Gurung, 13, the ceremony was extra special as she became the recipient of the 10,000th star for excellence in lessons since the scheme began in September.

Assistant headteacher Scott Lunn said: “Reaching the 10,000 mark so quickly is quite a feat and shows how hard our students work and what great citizens they are becoming.”

Jess added: “I was amazed to receive the 10,000th star and it was nice for me to accept it on behalf of all the pupils here at Richmond School.”

Angus said he felt the star system helped create an environment of friendly competition and build on Richmond School’s ethos of rewarding success.

Isla added: “It is also very encouraging for the students to be recognised and rewarded for their efforts and it inspires them to do well at school.”
