FAMILIES enjoyed homemade cake, coffee and Harry Potter-based activities at Catterick Garrison Library to celebrate National Libraries Day on Saturday, February 7.

Children took part in crafts and a treasure hunt for objects that featured in the Harry Potter novels, including the Philosopher’s Stone.

There was also an art exhibition running alongside the event, with work by Judith Bromley and Robert Nicholls, which accompanies their book Climb up on the Moor.

Copies of the book are still on sale at the library, as well as cards designed by both artists.

The national event comes as North Yorkshire County Council’s three month library service consultation drew to a close with customers being encouraged to take a last opportunity to give their views about the future of the service.

Stephanie Leighton attended the event with her sons Ben and Thomas, and said she had been spreading the word about the consultation via Facebook to all her friends:

She said: “I’ve just tried to get them all to have their say.”
