AN INFORMAL discussion group for women has become so popular, it is starting up a new group in North Yorkshire.

The National Women’s Register (NWR) has existed in Northallerton for the past 40 years and gone from strength to strength. It has now established a new group, Northallerton Nova, to serve the town and surrounding area, to meet local demand.

The group allows women to meet together for discussions on a wide range of subjects which aim to be topical and fun.

Members meet every three weeks and also plan their own programme of outings and lunches and join in national and regional events such as conferences and an annual telephone treasure trail.

Rosemary Kidd, from Northallerton Nova, said: “We tend to find our members are people who have moved into the area or retired. It’s really about informal discussion, which is quite different to other groups. We set our own agenda and do our own research and talks.

“It’s very much about following our own interests, meeting people and supporting people as they settle into what may be a new phase of their lives.”

The next meetings will cover topics including complementary therapies, qualities of the perfect politician, and women explorers.
