CHANGES are being made to the existing bus services in the city of Ripon.
Local operator Shaun Mcgowan of Shaun’s Minibuses and Coach Hire is planning to introduce a new commercial bus service.
The service will serve Clotherholme Road, Lark Lane, Lead Lane, and Dallamires Road from April.
The existing service, operated by Dales and District Travel, will be withdrawn following changes to the award of contracts by North Yorkshire County Council.
Mr McGowan said: “As a new venture we will be operating some contracted local bus services for the council and at the same time have taken the opportunity to provide an improved service for local people in Ripon.
“The city service will operate without financial support from the county council so it’s important that local people use it to make sure it is viable.”
The county’s executive member for passenger transport, Chris Metcalfe, said: “North Yorkshire County Council has been encouraging local operators to come forward and do more where possible to take on and continue commercial services in the county.
“This new and improved service for Ripon is not subsidised and so we hope local people will support it to ensure its future.”
Timetables for the new service will be available locally from the end of March 2015.
