YOUNG footballers have completed the treble, rounding off a successful season of sport for their school.

After already winning the Richmondshire and Hambleton Area Cup and area seven-a-side tournament they ended their season by claiming the biggest prize to become county champions.

The Year Nine football team at Richmond School and Sixth Form College took the North Yorkshire County Cup by beating Harrogate’s St John Fisher School 4-1 in the final.

PE teacher and coach Jonathan Kellett said: β€œIt has been a great season for the Year 9s winning all but one game in the year, which has been down to fabulous team play, hard work and a passionate desire to win.”

Year Seven and Eight teams played seven-man sides from across North Yorkshire, each winning their area tournaments. Years Seven and Nine also won their respective 11-a-side knockout cup earlier this year.

Richmond School and Sixth Form has also enjoyed success at rugby and cricket, with the under-13 cricketers crowned Yorkshire indoor champions.

The school says it is reaping the benefits of its investment in sport in recent years- and now boasts some of the best facilities in the county.
