A FUNDRAISING event to raise cash in memory of a friend has netted £6,000 for a cancer charity.

Paula Procter, from Scruton, hosted a Girls’ Night In for Macmillan Cancer Support last weekend in honour of her friend Sue Rhoney who lost her battle to cancer in March.

Around 70 people attended the event, which had been bolstered by donations of prizes from local businesses and individuals, and the evening raised £2,888 – with a donation of £112 to round it up to £3,000.

But Mrs Procter’s husband Kevin, who owns Procter’s Luxury Coach group, pledged to double whatever was made, giving a grand total of £6,000.

Mrs Procter said: “It was a very emotional night which started off by Sue’s daughter Morgan drawing the first raffle ticket.

“The atmosphere was amazing and I can’t believe the generosity of individuals and businesses as their kindness exceeded anything I could ever have imagined.

“I’ve been overwhelmed with messages of thanks for organising the night, but it couldn't have happened without the help, love and support of my very good friends and family.

“We can't bring our wonderful friend Sue back but we can try to help others.”
