A VILLAGE is marking its 110th annual show with a nod to two of its former leading lights.

Kirkby Fleetham Feast will be held on Saturday, August 13. There is a week-long build up to the show with competitions and contests running in the village from August 5 before the final celebration takes place on the village green.

But this year the floral competition will be held in memory of the feast’s late president, Celia Clarkson, who died of cancer in October last year, aged 79.

Margaret Wilson, another of the show’s volunteers, said: “A lot of people in the village have fond memories of Celia; she was know as the ‘Queen of Raffles’ because she was so good at getting people to buy tickets or donate prizes.”

The vegetable classes will be held in memory of Alby Dale, a prolific cup winner, who also died earlier this year.

Trophies and prizes have been donated by each family in their memory.

There will be a host of other attractions on offer, including a ‘WHAM’ (Woofers, Hounds and Mutts) dog show for local pets, children’s fancy dress, wheelbarrow races, a beer tent, afternoon teas and marquees showing crafts, fruit, flowers and vegetable classes.
