SOLDIERS made a triumphant homecoming, as troops from the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment were welcomed by crowds as they paraded through the streets of Richmond last Friday.
Formerly known as the Green Howards, the regiment has just returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Led by Lieutenant Colonel Simon Downey, they were due to continue their homecoming tour in Scarborough and Bridlington, before returning to their base in Preston.
The regiment was presented with the Freedom of the City by Richmond mayor Judith Steggles. Later, she said: "It has been so good to see so many people turning out to support the soldiers. We are so proud of them."
A MAN was arrested following an armed siege after he barricaded himself into his council house when bailiffs arrived to evict him.
