Kate Green: Her work ha inoressed the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists

A HOUSEWIFE who began her painting career with an Open University course has been honoured by an influential art society.

Kate Green, of Richmond, has been accepted as a member of the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists after impressing judges with her exquisite paintings.

Mrs Green, 61, who took a course in philosophy and art history eight years ago, has also had her work exhibited by the Royal Miniaturists Society. She said: "I had never done anything arty before, so doing the course was a real revelation.

"I don't just work in miniature, but there is something very special about them - they are little worlds of their own.

"I find painting so absorbing, you just lose yourself in it for hours on end." Paintings are available to view or buy at the Phoenix Fine Art gallery, Finkle Street.
