A SCHOOL is bursting with pride after recording its best ever GCSE results.

More than 70 per cent of students at Bishop Barrington School, in Bishop Auckland, achieved at least five A* to Cs, including English and maths.

And 98 per cent of the cohort gained five or more A* to C grades across the curriculum.

The school is particularly proud of its English results, with over 80 per cent achieving A* to C grades, and exceptional levels of progress from key stage 2.

The school’s year 11 student leadership team- Shannon Armstrong, James Henderson, Matthew Brown, Abigail Loades and Matthew Lambert- achieved 61 A* to C grades. Deputy head boy, Matthew Brown, achieved 12 A* and A grades within his results.

Katie Henry, who was presented with a Lord Glenamara Award from education secretary Michael Gove in January, got 15 A* to C grades including seven at A* and A.

Headteacher Jackie Gent said the school was especially proud of ‘looked after children’ John Moore and Kieran Miller, who achieved 9 A* to Cs including five at A* and A and 11 A* to Cs respectively.

She also highlighted the success of Phattraporn Paladit, who had very little English language when she started the school, but managed to gain 12 A* to C grades including six at A* and A.
