YOUNGSTERS have shown off their creative skills for a graffiti art project designed to bring the church and the community together.
St John’s Church, in Shildon, ran the ten-week project.
Stanley-based artist Graham Cleland worked with the youngsters on the scheme, which was based in Shildon Methodist Church Hall.
The work was part of the Shildon Alive scheme, which is a church-led project aiming to improve community life and further links with schools and young people.
Reverend David Tomlinson, vicar of St John’s, said: “The project has allowed us to work with young people who might not normally have the opportunity to engage their creative side.
”It has allowed them to show how naturally creative they are and we have been able to help them channel that creativity in a positive direction.”
The results of their work were exhibited at Shildon Civic Hall earlier this month.
Mr Cleland said: “It is good to see a church involved directly with the community.
“The young people have shown plenty of energy and enthusiasm and I am impressed with their artistic ability.”
This is the latest project run by the Shildon Alive team which recently donated £2,500 to Sunnydale Community College to allow pupils to create a sensory garden.
