A DALES town hopes to resurrect a community event that ended many years ago.

Wolsingham Gala Day committee is raising funds to stage a gala next year in a bid to bring back the town's carnival atmosphere.

Residents and businesses are getting behind the fundraising at events such as a Princess Day on Saturday (July 12), which was enjoyed by more than 30 children.

They are also donating prizes for the monthly bingo, held at Wolsingham Town Hall on the second Friday of the month, from 7pm to 9pm.

Committee chairwoman Emily McGrath said: "Our first fundraiser was at Easter and we had a really good reaction to our appeal for support.

“It proved to us that there was a need for more community events, so we have carried on from there.

"We are calling next year's event a gala day, so it is not the same as the old carnival, but we hope to make it a really fun, family, community day.

“We are now working hard to raise the funds needed to stage the gala."

The committee is asking people to get in touch with their memories of old carnivals.
