A COUPLE who saved a friendly cat from imminent death on a busy road are appealing to her owner to come forward.

Sally and David Rowley, of Emergency Animal Rescue in Stanhope, came across the black cat on the bridge on the A689 in Wolsingham last Friday (August 22).

Traffic was queuing down the road as cautious drivers attempted to pass the animal, who was rubbing up against their car wheels.

Mrs Rowley said: “The cat was actually rubbing up against moving car wheels, which is not normal. She didn’t seem to be able to see very well.

“It was only a matter of time before she got squashed. She isn’t wearing a collar but she is very friendly and placid so she is not a feral cat.”

Mr Rowley carried the confused animal to the safety of his car and, the next day, Mrs Rowley took her to the vet, who confirmed she was uninjured and did not have a microchip.

Mr and Mrs Rowley are appealing to the cat’s owner to contact them on 07733-153516 or 01388-526375.
