PRINCE’S Trust volunteers have kitted out their new home thanks to the British Heart Foundation.

The group moved into new premises in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, earlier this year, but were left in desperate need of some furniture for the building.

However after a conversation with James Corrigan, warehouse supervisor at the charity's furniture shop, which is based down the street, it was agreed the Prince's Trust could have any unwanted items.

Items donated include arm chairs, settees, mirrors and pictures.

Prince's Trust team leader Peter Ahmed hopes his groups can volunteer for the British Heart Foundation in the future to repay the good turn.

“It has really made a difference to us,” he said. “It has helped to make the building somewhere the students would want to come.

“It also helps the British Heart Foundation as this is furniture they were getting rid of so it has saved them money.”

The free Prince's Trust programme, which is run through Stockton Riverside College, takes place three times a year and offers unemployed young people aged 16 to 25 the chance to develop their personal skills by working as a team on a series of projects and challenges.

It provides volunteers with a nationally-recognised qualification.

The next course will start in January. For details, call Mr Ahmed on 01388 664211 or 07553 367548.
