A FAMILY fun day will be held in Weardale tomorrow (Saturday September 27) to help children in need of specialist medical equipment.

After four-month-old Jayden Kellett, from Wolsingham, in Weardale, was diagnosed with flat head syndrome friends and family launched a cash crusade to buy a specialist corrective helmet that cost £2,000.

Enough money was soon raised to enable parents Sarah and Richard to buy the helmet so this weekend's event, which had already been planned before the target was reached, will go towards helping other children in the same position.

Mrs Kellet said: ' We have been lucky because we live in a close-knit community and everyone has supported us, gathering around us as soon as we needed help.

"Others, maybe in isolated areas, may not bee so lucky and not get the support they need.

"He is such a happy little boy and we are so grateful for all the help we are being given.'

The fun day, from noon, includes a bouncy castle, face-painting, craft stalls and a treasure hunt - children must be accompanied by an adult for this.

After the treasure hunt there will be a children's disco and adults can enjoy a karaoke from 7.30pm.
