RESIDENTS will face disruption as Northern Gas Networks carries out essential work to upgrade ageing gas mains.

The project in Shildon is part of a £119,000 investment covering the north of England.

It will involve replacing more than 1,400 metres of metallic gas main with more durable plastic pipes to improve safety and ensure a reliable supply.

The work started today (Friday, November 7) and it is expected to take about nine weeks to complete.

It covers Queensway, Coronation Avenue, Baysdale Gardens, Eskdale Gardens, Farndale Gardens, Glaisdale Avenue, Cleveland Avenue, Westerdale and Spout Lane.

Gordon Thompson, customer operations area manager, Northern Gas Networks, said: “We will be doing all we can to minimise any disruption caused and keep traffic flowing as normal.

“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause.”

A customer cabin will on site to provide advice between 10am and 1pm on Wednesdays.

The Northern Gas Network customer care team can be contacted on 0845-6340508, option 7, between 8am and 10pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays.
