A YOUNGSTER born with one leg longer than the other has won an award for his bravery.

Jack Bissett, ten, of Coronation Avenue, Shildon, won the Shildon and Young People’s Award Chloe Clark Special Achievement and Recognition prize.

Caroline Bissett, the Thornhill Primary School pupil’s mother, said: “We’re very proud of him. We’re over the moon with the award.

“His left leg is shorter than the right. He has plates and screws in his right leg to stop it growing so his left leg can catch up.”

The Shildon Town Council and the Shildon Children and Young People's Action Network awards show the good work of the town’s youths.

Councillor Henry Nicholson, Shildon’s mayor, said: “It’s absolutely wonderful. It shows that Shildon is in great hands.

“It’s nice to show that their hard work hasn’t been forgotten.”

Derrick Robinson, of Scypan, said: “It’s a good way to say thank you for the youngster’s work and achievements.”
