FOUR teachers have donated almost 30 inches of hair to a charity that makes wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment.

Kim Busby, Emily Conlin, Ayu Race and Nim [CORR] Philbrick took it in turns to have at least seven inches of hair cut off in front of their pupils at Crook Primary School today (Monday, November 24).

The teachers followed in the footsteps of pupil, Molly Todd, who donated ten inches of her long blonde locks to the Little Princess Trust last month.

Molly, seven, was inspired by her grandmother, Carol Redshaw, who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer for the second time.

Hairdresser Elaine Campin and Kelly Reed, of Walnut hair and Beauty in Prudhoe, were charged with cutting the hair and youngsters clapped and cheering throughout.

Ms Busby, deputy head at the school, said: “We are so proud of Molly’s brave act and it inspired us to the same. It is a long time since I have had short hair so I am a little bit nervous but I know it is for a good cause and hair grows back.”

Miss Philbrick said: “I hadn’t cut my hair for two years before this so it feels really strange. I am delighted to help the charity in this way. It is such a worthwhile cause.

Mrs Race added: “It is all down to Molly. She is an inspiration.”

The Little Princess Trust is a charity that provides real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss
