A RECYCLING centre will stay open until at least July 2015 after a successful three-month trial.
The new site at Frosterley, set up for Weardale residents on a trial basis in August, has proved so popular that it will remain open until next summer, when it will be reviewed again.
Councillor Brian Stephens, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and local partnerships, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to extend the service for a lot longer and give people living in Frosterley, Wolsingham, Stanhope, Westgate and surrounding areas continued access to a convenient recycling centre.
“Demand has been very high to date and we will have another look at what is needed at the end of July.”
The site, opposite the Sherburn Stone quarry, off the A689 in Frosterley, will stay open on alternate Saturdays between 9am and noon from Saturday, December 13.
