CROOK residents can look forward to a personal Christmas card delivery service next week as members of the town’s St Andrew’s Church begin their annual tradition to boost church funds.

More than 20 volunteers will be providing this year’s service which gives residents the opportunity to have their cards delivered to anywhere in Crook for only 20p a card.

All they have to do is drop them off, with the full address, into the church, in Dawson Street.

Cards will be accepted by the team from Monday, December 8 to Thursday, December 11, between 9am and noon, before being delivered the following week.

The church has been hosting the festive fundraiser since 1991 with the funds being used to support it for example by helping with the heating bill.

Volunteer, Edna March, 80, has been taking part for more than 20 years and said the service is always popular with the whole community and is the result of a “great team effort”.

“It’s very popular in the area especially because some of the estates are a long way out of the town centre and there’s some quite complicated streets which means a lot of people who like to send their cards but are not well enough can’t get out to look for all the address,” she said.

“It’s also a good support for the church and it’s a bit of outreach for us because a lot of people come into the church to bring their cards – overall it’s a very worthwhile thing.”
