A TEENAGER decided to make her new look really count by having her pony tail chopped off to be made into make a wig for a poorly child.
Kira Willis was toying with the idea of having her long hair cut to shoulder length when she learnt about The Little Princess Trust.
The charity provides real-hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.
Kira remembered pop star Jessie J shaving her head for the charity and knowing that she could donate her hair decided to have 12 inches cut off and posted it straight away.
The 15-year-old from Escomb, near Bishop Auckland, said: “It was really long but I have never regretted having it cut to my shoulders, if I lost my hair I would be a total wreck.
“Knowing there could be a child out there with my hair and feeling better because of it is a really nice thought.”
The charity also hit home for Kira, a pupil at King James I Academy, in Bishop Auckland, because her own family has been affected by cancer including an auntie who fought breast cancer.
She said: “I know it affects so many people and anyone at any time, to think of children going through it I wanted to help make it a bit easier for them.”
