A COLOMBIAN dancer is launching a new fitness class inspired by the Latin music and moves of her motherland.

Yoana Ocampo’s will draw upon the dance styles of her native Columbia for her Latino fitness classes which begin in Shildon, Newton Aycliffe and Crook this month.

The 33-year-old mother-of-two, now living in Bishop Auckland, is passionate about dancing and hopes her energetic classes will show people how much fun exercise can be.

“I called it Latino fitness as it combines many different kinds of dancing – reggaeton, salsa, merengue, belly dancing and hip hop,” she said.

“Whenever I hear Latin music I want to dance. It’s a great way to stay fit but you don’t realise you are doing exercise because it is so much fun.”

Mrs Ocampo is holding free taster sessions at Greenfield Community College, Newton Aycliffe, on Tuesday, January 20, from 7pm to 8pm; Jubilee Fields Community Centre, Shildon, on Wednesday, January 21, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm; and St Catherine’s Community Centre, Crook, on Thursday, January 22, from 7pm to 8pm.
