A PLANNING application has been submitted to build four new homes next to a former pub in Weardale.

The new homes would be built next door to the now closed Weardale Inn, Ireshopeburn, which was last year given planning permission to be converted into three residential units.

The applicant, Isobel Page, said the development is designed to complement the existing approved application for the conversion of the existing public house into three homes.

A design statement submitted with the application reads: “Overall it is considered that the impact on the existing asset from the proposed development will be minimal.

“The proposed site of the residential units is a considerable distance from the asset, maintaining its individual significance on the site and its surroundings.”

So far there have been no public responses to the application. A decision on whether to grant the permission is due to be made by Durham County Council on Tuesday, March 3.
