YOUNGSTERS have created a wish-list of ideas which they would like to see in Shildon in an effort to improve the town.

The first meeting of the Shildon Ignite group was held this week and 33 youngsters aged 11-years and over attended the session.

It was held at Shildon Civic Hall and it was organised by St John’s Church and the Shildon Children and Young People’s Action Network, in Shildon.

Reverend David Tomlinson, of St John’s Church and the vice-chairman of Shildon Ignite, said: “It was a very successful night.

“Youngsters who attended listed what they liked about Shildon and what they didn’t like.

“They said they wanted to look at vandalism, litter and the lack of bins and open mic nights at the Civic Hall for youngsters.

“They’d also like to see the Timothy Hackworth house to be restored to how it was when he lived there.”

Shildon Ignite organisers hope to merge with Shildon Youth Council to provide a bigger and stronger group.

The group will meet twice a month and the next session is at Costa Coffee, on Church Street, at 7pm on Tuesday, March 10.
